For sales professionals and teams, the software offers opportunity management and sales-report generation capabilities, but it doesn't pretend to be a full-fledged customer-relationship management tool such as Sage CRM SalesLogix. To catch up, the next version will have to simplify the experience drastically while maintaining backward compatibility with the ACT! database.Īs a contact manager, ACT! does well, giving you great flexibility in designing contact-information databases and data-input interfaces, and making the process relatively easy. This much more complicated workgroup version has to be measured against a backdrop of other strong software and online options (such as ), and therefore, a product that we once wholeheartedly recommended has fallen out of favor. We've given other ACT! products a higher rating in the past, but the space has changed considerably since then, and ACT! hasn't kept up. A single license for the combination costs $469.99, $70 more than the Workgroups version alone. Combining the Workgroups and Web products lets remote employees and those on your network access the same database. Sage Software, the company that now owns ACT!, offers four new, modestly improved editions of the product: ACT! 2007 ($229.99 list), ACT! Premium for Web 2007 ($399.99), ACT! for Palm OS 2007 ($99.99), and the one I tested, ACT! Premium for Workgroups 2007 ($399.99), which accommodates larger teams than the regular product and gives greater control over user permissions. The product certainly provides a viable (but not outstanding) option for new customers looking for a powerful contact manager, but the updates this version makes probably won't prove substantial enough for current users to upgrade.

Working with ACT! by Sage Premium for Workgroups 2007, with its myriad features-some less than intuitive-can at times be as daunting as saying its name. When a product's capabilities expand, so too can its complexity.
